The Food Network is rolling into Lake Charles on Monday, Jan. 29, to film an episode of “The Great Food Truck Race.” The network will bring seven food trucks to compete on the show, which features star chef and host Tyler Florence. The episode will be filmed entirely in the city in two days.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our area’s rich cultural heritage, beautiful scenery, and Southern hospitality to a national audience. The Food Network is distributed to nearly 100 million U.S. households,” said Kyle Edmiston, president and CEO of Visit Lake Charles.
"The Great Food Truck Race" is a reality television show that follows teams of food trucks while competing in a competitive cooking and business challenge. The show typically features a group of food truck entrepreneurs who embark on a cross-country road trip to various cities, where they face culinary challenges and business tasks. Each episode focuses on a different location, and the goal is to win challenges, attract the most customers, and generate the highest sales to emerge as the overall winner and receive a cash prize of $50,000.
The seven trucks will be spread out along Bord du Lac Drive behind the Lake Charles Events Center, possibly extending into Veterans Memorial Park and in the downtown district. The food truck teams will be selling their food on Monday, Jan. 29, from roughly 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, Jan. 30, from roughly 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents are invited to visit the food trucks and be a part of the excitement.
